Your chartered yacht itinerary can be begin in Genoa as you sail towards La Spezia, with its long Naval history. The Naval Museum and the archaeological finds in St. George’s Castle, overlooking the city, are well worth visiting. Before leaving La Spezia you really should try the “mes-ciua” a typical soup made from cereals.
The second stop could be Bocca di Magra, known as being a favorite haunt of men of great culture like Montale, Einaudi, Pavese and Vittorini, who had summer homes there, and the reason for its inclusion in the Val di Magra and Luni Cultural Park itineraries.
Spend another day on board the “Fortuna” and visit Erice, a delightful village with a fairy-tale landscape that has inspired many artists, like the castle standing on the highest point of the bay and the walls surrounding the historical town center. The Chapel of Saint Anastasia and the hexagonal tower are well worth visiting and at sunset you are able to admire all the beauty of this jewel in the poets’ gulf.
Set sail towards the attractive seafaring village of Portovenere. Dating back to Roman times, it sits directly over the emerald sea surrounded by the three fascinating islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto. The church of St. Peter stands on the promontory of Portovenere and is reached by walking through the village, where Byron’s cave, the castle and the church of Saint Lorenzo are all worth visiting. In the evening, enjoy a dinner of local freshly caught fish on the quay.
Riomaggiore is another jewel in Cinque Terre, which could be visited on the fifth day of your cruise. The walk down to the marina among the typical colored houses is charming, and from the small beach at Fossola, the “Torre Guardiola” nature walk begins through fascinating settings. Another stop at Corniglia, with the wonderful long stretch of cliffs, offers a climb of 365 steps, like the days of the year, up to the town. This very old and charming village still conserves its ancient stone houses and doorways. The terrace at the very tip of the village with the sheer drop down to the sea, offers the perfect view of the windmill valley. Relax for a day on the Guvano beach and enjoy an invigorating swim in the sea.
Monterosso is an interesting place to stop in this wonderful Italian oasis. It can be reached on board the “Fortuna”. Originally a seafaring village, it is now part of the “Cinque Terre National Park”. Disembark and take a stroll through the historic center, with the “carruggi” or alleys, enjoy a glass of “sciacchetrà” in one of the wine-cellars, or walk as far as the former Cappuccini Convent.
The farming village of Levanto is also interesting, known as the “Door to Cinque Terre”, it has one of the largest beaches in the area and is now very popular with surfers. Visit the Church of Saint Andrew, the medieval loggia, the ancient town walls and the clock tower. Before returning to your yacht, try the “gattafin” or stock up on the exceptional olive oil they produce.
Bonassola is a typical seafaring village with brightly colored buildings and narrow streets, with local craft shops. The bay is crescent shaped and has a very well equipped beach. There are several bars and restaurants in Bonassola to enjoy a drink or a romantic candlelit dinner.
