Elba and the Tuscany Archipelago are the perfect unforgettable locations for your yachting holiday, with breath-taking coastal landscapes and unparalleled traditional wine and food. Each of the islands has many hidden bays and beautiful beaches, suitable for water sports including kitesurfing and diving. Elba, Giglio, Pianosa, Montecristo, Giannutri, Gorgona, and also Capraia and Porto Ercole are all resorts where you can spend the afternoon bathing in the crystalline sea, or the evening shopping or walking through the captivating streets. Along the coast of Elba there are many small bays with large sandy beaches. Elba is also famous because Napoleon went into exile there in 1814 when he was forced to abdicate.
The first stop on your cruise can be Porto Azzurro, in the Mola Gulf dominated by a fort; this picturesque fishing village has the typical small pastel colored houses surrounding the port’s narrow, winding streets and gorgeous views.
When you disembark, you should visit Capoliveri with its long coastline stretching from Marina di Campo to Porto Azzurro. It offers a wonderful view of most of Elba, Montecristo island, Pianosa, the Tuscany coast and even as far as the coast of Corsica.
You can travel around the island to its main town, Portoferraio, which is situated on a rocky spur and famous for its natural port.
This is the chief town on the island, and its architecture and coast are fascinating and considered to be the island’s most spectacular. From the Ghiaie beach you will reach the Enfola promontory with its white cliffs and small bays overlooking the crystalline sea.
Continue cruising towards another splendid resort, Marciana Marina, where you will find smaller coves and a relaxing and quiet atmosphere. The turquoise sea juxtaposes strikingly against the surrounding landscape of nature’s vibrant colors.
The Island of Capraia in the Tuscany Archipelago which is a National Park, has to be on your list to see, with its safe anchorage and beautiful beaches. From Capraia you can sail around the other islands in the Archipelago, passing through Pianosa, Montecristo as far as the Island of Giglio, with its fascinating castle and charming village.
You can wrap up your cruise in Tuscany, and spend the last day visiting Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole: two lovely towns, both formerly occupied by the Spanish in the XVI century, with beautifully preserved forts on the surrounding hills. Do a spot of last minute shopping in the lively bustling markets.
